YEP Youth + Staff Travel To Brazil

A group of 19 YEP participants and staff returned to Brazil as a part of the next phase of a peer-to-peer learning exchange with Rede Cidadã, an organization that has placed thousands of young people into jobs across the South American country through their innovative approach to employment readiness training for youth. The trip from July 28 to August 4 was facilitated by the Baltimore based, International Youth Foundation (IYF) and made possible thanks to the generous support of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF).

The YEP team started the week-long trip by visiting a few museums and cultural landmarks around Sao Paulo. They also observed and participated in the programming that Rede Cidadã operates for the city’s homeless population in some of the local shelters. The group then spent several days at the organization’s newly acquired “Mandala Center” where they learned more about the theory behind Rede Cidadã’s methodology. Rede Cidadã incorporates biocentric movement and dance into employment readiness and apprenticeship training.
