Seth’s Story

Primary Program: The Village

Secondary Programs: Post-Secondary Transition Services

“I feel like the staff at YEP truly do care about the people they’re helping” said Seth who dropped out of a traditional New Orleans high school because the large classroom environment was not working for him. He found a better fit at the Youth Empowerment Project’s Village program which helped him earn his HiSET (formerly GED) in December 2015. “When I was in high school, I felt like I was learning things I wouldn’t really need to use in the real world,” said Seth, now a freshman at the University of New Orleans (UNO) studying international business with a minor in Japanese. After earning his HiSET, YEP’s Post-Secondary Transition Services team helped Seth enroll at UNO and continues to offer him support as he works towards completing his college degree. Seth’s mom, Marie, is glad her son was able to get back on track with help from YEP: “YEP has impacted my son’s life greatly. I’ve seen him mature and evolve through it. He put forth the effort.”
