YEP Participates in Youth Forum

YEP IN COLORADO: ASPEN INSTITUTE OPPORTUNITY YOUTH FORUM

The week of October 8, YEP staff members Brice White, Don Davis and Yasin Pierce participated in The Aspen Institute Opportunity Youth Forum. The trio co-led an innovative design studio session called ‘Making Youth ReConnection Work Through Movement, Dance, Meditation, and Love’ with The International Youth Foundation and representatives from Rede Cidadã of Brazil. The YEP team participated in biocentric movement and meditation activities with 16 other participants at the Aspen, Colorado gathering.

Brice, Don and Yasin also shared their experiences of traveling to Brazil in July and learning about the biocentric education methodology and how they have brought those lessons back home to their personal lives and to their work with youth every day in New Orleans. YEP looks forward to bringing these innovative ideas and practices to programming in 2019. Special thanks to the Aspen Institute and the International Youth Foundation for making YEP participation at the forum possible.

YEP ENRICHES: HOT 8 BRASS BAND VISITS YEP AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM

Members of the HOT 8 Brass Band came to YEP’s Afterschool Program on Friday, October 26 to perform and talk with youth about their personal experiences and how they got involved in the music industry. The children were also given the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the history of brass bands in New Orleans.

Thank you to the HOT 8 Brass Band for taking time out of their busy schedules to stop by YEP and inspire youth. The brass band also stressed the importance of preserving the Crescent City’s musical and cultural heritage.
