Darrin is originally from Michigan, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Grand Valley State University in 2007. While living in Michigan, Darrin worked a residential treatment facility for children in the child welfare system. He relocated to New Orleans in 2008 to obtain his Masters in Social Work from Tulane University. While he was a graduate student, Darrin served as a Social Worker Intern at YEP and was hired by YEP after his graduation in 2009! Darrin now oversees YEP's newest program, the Trafigura Work & Learn Center. Prior to running the Work & Learn Center, Darrin was the director of YEP's Village program. He has more than 10 years of applied experience working with minority, underserved and disenfranchised juveniles.
70 percent of YEP’s staff members are born and raised in New Orleans and the vast majority grew up in the same neighborhoods that our youth live in. Our staff members’ personal understanding of the challenges that our young people face make them uniquely qualified to provide support to YEP youth.
