Youth Empowerment Project

Dear YEP Supporters:

Springtime in New Orleans has kept YEP participants and staff on their toes with new YEP Educates & YEP Works graduates. YEP has also seen some major milestones in our YEP Mentors programs, celebrating the high school graduations of three young people who have been connected to YEP for almost a decade.

YEP also received tremendous support from the community at our annual fundraiser YEP Fest featuring Pedal for YEP. We are proud to announce that the street festival and pedicab races will be making a comeback in March of 2019!

Thanks to supporters like you, YEP is able to continue offering underserved youth an array of wraparound services, including our upcoming Kids X-Press Summer Camp and New Orleans Providing Literacy to All Youth (NOPLAY) Summer Scholars program.

40under40 Networking event with New Orleans City Councilmember Kristin Giselson Palmer

YEP could not do the work it does without supporters like you. On May 17, members of YEP’s 40under40 Cohort met with newly elected New Orleans City Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer to discuss the political landscape in New Orleans and her jurisdiction over District C. Special thanks to Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s Chief-of-Staff John Pourciau for stopping by to answer questions and weigh-in on city politics at the networking happy hour event held at The Maison on Frenchmen Street.

What is YEP’s 40under40 Cohort? A select group of young professionals have pledged to give $40 per month for the duration of 2018 in order to support YEP’s mission. Together, this cohort will raise nearly $20,000 during 2018 that will provide education services, mentoring support, enrichment programming and employment readiness training to more than 1,000 of our city’s most vulnerable youth. YEP’s 40 Under 40 fundraising initiative was launched in 2016.

Save The Date: YEP Fest featuring Pedal for YEP is making a comeback in 2019!

YEP Fest featuring Pedal for YEP 2018 exceeded expectations – despite the rainstorm – and YEP raised over $106,000 that will help YEP provide educational, mentoring, enrichment and employment readiness services to 1,252 young people this year. Because of the success of YEP Fest 2018, we are delighted to let you know that YEP Fest, featuring Pedal for YEP will be back in 2019!

Please mark your calendars for Sunday, March 24, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the 1600 block of Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard, New Orleans, LA 70113. To learn more about how you can get involved visit the event website here.

YEP Mentors: We are celebrating 2018 High School Grads! Some of these young people have been connected to YEP Mentors programs for almost a decade!

A special congratulations to these recent 2018 high school graduates involved in YEP Mentors programming! Some of these young people have been receiving support from YEP Mentors programming for nearly a decade. They include De La Salle High School grad Julien, McDonogh 35 College Preparatory High School grad Christian and  LB Landry – OP Walker College and Career Preparatory High School grad Gerald. All three young men have been receiving mentoring support from YEP Senior Youth Advocate Renell Gibbs since they were between the ages of 8 and 10 years old. YEP is proud of all of their accomplishments and looks forward to seeing what other goals they set and conquer for themselves!
