Youth Empowerment Project
April 2017
Spring has sprung at YEP! We have exciting updates to share with you including the launch of our new website and official unveiling of our revamped YEP logo.

 YEP’s New Look!

With our Design Works Creative Digital Media program taking off, we thought it was a good time to revamp our old website and make it more user-friendly for the young people we serve and our supporters. Check it out! Our new YEP logo was created with the help of Design Works students who made sure to incorporate some of the old with the new. If you or someone you know is looking to support our youth-driven graphic design program, please have them contact YEP

Save the Date: YEP Design Works students’ have put together a photo exhibit based on their “Queens of New Orleans” calendar for the Ace Hotel New Orleans. The exhibit located in the hotel lobby officially kicks of Friday, April 21 through June 30.

Volunteer Orientation: Bring a friend and learn more about getting involved with YEP! Our next meet up is on Wednesday, May 10 from 6:00-7:00 pm at 1600 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. Light refreshments will be served! Fill out our volunteer form.

Strong City Partnership

On April 1, YEP Executive Director Melissa Sawyer, retired YEP Board Member Judge Calvin Johnson and YEP Director of Communications Tania Dall were invited to the official launch of Strong City in New York. YEP was initially approached by Tulane Medical School graduate Peter Gold to partner with his Strong City team. Gold was interviewed by NBC News earlier this month about the launch of his foundation and how he wants to support organizations like YEP in helping to uplift the lives of underserved youth in New Orleans. You can read more about YEP’s exciting new partnership here or by watching this WWL-TV news report.

YEP in the news…
  • YEP’s Juvenile Justice Program Director Chabre Johnson was interviewed by WWLTV on how YEP’s mentoring programs are helping to curb violent crime among youth in New Orleans.
  • “Could your business use some help? Check out YEP’s Work and Learn Program.” Biz New Orleans Magazine featured YEP in this April 2017 non-profit spotlight.
